What are connectors used for?

A connector is attached to each end of an Internet cable. Cabling of less than 100 metres in length is equipped with a cast-on connector as standard. If you want to install your own cabling and/or need cables longer than 100 meters, you must connect the connectors to the cable yourself.

Different types

Different types of connectors are available, namely RJ11, RJ45 and Keystone.

RJ11
RJ11 connectors are used for telephony. Just as the RJ45-variant the RJ11 connector can be mounted on both Cat5e and Cat6 cables.

RJ45
RJ45 connectors are used for internet cables. You can choose from 4 different types:
Unshielded Cat5e connectors: suitable for a Cat5e UTP cable
Unshielded Cat6 connectors:   suitable for a Cat6 UTP cable
Shielded Cat5e connectors:     mandatory for a Cat5e FTP kabel
Shielded Cat6 connectors:       mandatory for a Cat6 FTP cable

Keystone 
Keystone connectors are used for connections to patch panels.

RJ45 Pass Through
With this connector, you push the cable completely through the plug, so that it comes out on the front. This way, you can easily see the color sequence of the individual wires. Are they according to the B standard? Then trim the excess and press the plug together with a crimping tool. This ensures that all wires are fully pierced and an optimal connection is established.
Choose the same category for the Pass Through network connectors as your cables: Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a. For unshielded cables, use UTP. If you have shielded cables, choose FTP or S/FTP to protect the cable from electromagnetic interference (EMI).
