What is an outdoor server rack?

An outdoor server rack or patch cabinet is a 19-inch cabinet that has four 19-inch mounting profiles. In these profiles, you directly attach 19-inch network equipment, such as a rack server, patch panel, switch or ups. 

The difference between a 'normal' server rack and an outdoor server rack is that the outdoor rack is weatherproof. It has a welded construction and a lockable door. The rack has mounting points at the back to which you can attach it to a wall.

Ventilation of outdoor server racks

Even with an outdoor server cabinet, ventilation is important. The temperature inside the cabinet must not rise so that the active equipment does not overheat. This is why the outdoor cabinet has ventilation holes at the front. The holes are covered so that water cannot get into the cabinet when it rains. In addition, the cabinet has a built-in fan. This transports the warm air out of the cabint faster. 

IP rating outdoor server racks

The 19-inch outdoor rack has an IP value of 55. IP55 means that the rack is dustproof and spraywater-proof. So with our 19-inch outdoor patch cabinet, you do not have to worry about the safety of your network equipment. Everything is safely stored in this patch cabinet. 

Which outdoor patch cabinet do I need?

Our outdoor cabinets have a  useable depth of 50 cm and a height of 6U to 18U. Before choosing a cabinet, think of which devices you want to install in the cabinet. The height of most network equipment is given in U's. So you simply add up all the heights. 

We recommend choosing a cabinet that has a few U's more space. This allows you to easily adapt or expand your network in the future without the need for a new cabinet.
